GoodWeave Expands Work to End Child Weaving into Afghanistan

After 15 years of combating child servitude in South Asia’s handmade carpet industry, the nonprofit organization GoodWeave is expanding its operations internationally, beginning with Afghanistan. GoodWeave estimates the first child-labor-free certified rugs produced in Afghanistan to be available by early 2012.

Tenth Annual GoodWeave Rug Raffle Features Carini Lang's "English Floral"

GoodWeave USA has just launched its 10th annual rug raffle. For as little as $25, entrants have a chance to win a luxurious rug, designed and donated by New York-based Carini Lang and certified child-labor-free by GoodWeave. All proceeds benefit the nonprofit organization’s work to end the exploitation of children in South Asia’s rug industry.

From June 28 through July 22, Macy’s is hosting GoodWeave’s nationally touring Faces of Freedom photography exhibit at its flagship Herald Square store in Manhattan. The month-long exhibition follows Macy’s announcement that it is now offering customers several exclusive collections of area rugs certified child-labor-free by GoodWeave in selected stores.
