GoodWeave in Afghanistan Supporter Briefing Webinar

Fazel WasitOverseeing the launch of GoodWeave in Afghanistan has been an incredibly demanding and rewarding experience for me and our Kabul team. The challenges before us are visible in everyday life. As UNICEF reports, nearly 30 percent of elementary school aged children in Afghanistan work on the streets—these are the kids we see every day—selling trinkets, polishing shoes and washing cars instead of attending school.

But GoodWeave’s programs are aimed at those who are hidden away—the ones you don’t see—the ones nobody sees. Through our loom monitoring and educational programs, we are now working literally door-to-door, house-to-house, loom-to-loom. And one-by-one, we are reaching the ones who are otherwise invisible, toiling under unthinkable conditions. Getting these kids into school is their only chance, the only way for their families to get out of poverty and the only way our country can ever rebuild itself.

As our programs in Afghanistan continue to grow, we thank you for the incredible support we have received. Please watch our webinar for moving updates about GoodWeave's “firsts” in Afghanistan, including the ribbon cutting ceremony at a child development center in Balkh Province, as well as insights into a very hidden class of workers—women weavers and child laborers. After 30 years of war, we can all agree that investing in today’s children gives us hope that our country will have a brighter future.
